“Regardless of your experience or level, Uday always manages to find new technical details to help you improve your practice and his kind manner shines through his passionate teaching, encouraging you to give your best effort”
My love of Iyengar Yoga began in the late ’90s and I began training and learning in Pune, India with Guruji (B.K.S. Iyengar, the founder of Iyengar Yoga), his daughter Geetaji and his son Prashantji in 2002. I have over 20 years experience of teaching Iyengar Yoga, 15 years of which were at the world-renowned Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI). In that time I’ve taught thousands of students in 17 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia via large in-person events, small group workshops, classes for children, individual tuition and regular online classes. I have wide-ranging experience of working with students of all ages (from 7- 92) and abilities from beginners to experienced teachers.
“Compassion, precision and light humour. It is rare to find a teacher where all these attributes are developed and work together to convey an incredibly rigorous practice with a light touch that means that every single student feels included.”
Whatever your experience, age, ability and goals I design my yoga instruction and teaching to help you get the most benefit from it. I believe in delivering sessions that are interactive, engaging, light-hearted and fun whilst staying true to the art, science and philosophy of Iyengar Yoga. My students tell me that I provide structure, knowledge and discipline with a ‘light touch. I’m keen to make Iyengar Yoga accessible to all and whether you want to deepen and enhance your practice, learn something new, understand your body better or improve your health and well-being I will work with you to help you achieve that.
“His instructions are precise and clear. His patience seems boundless and he gives a myriad of alternative ways of working for those of us who are less able or slower learners…the classes are peppered with his mischievousbut warm humour.”
I have regularly run charity fundraising classes and in 2021 I was honoured to be awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for fundraising services to NHS charities and supporting the mental health of yoga practitioners during COVID- 19. I have delivered sessions supporting the NHS, The Honeypot Children’s Charity and Give India (providing COVID-19 support to charitable organisations in India). Since 2020 we have raised over £55,000 through the generous donations of students, friends and supporters.
I have now been awarded a British Empire Medal in 2021 for the charity services to NHS charities via the fund raiser and supporting the mental health of practitioners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I moved to the UK in 2015 and am based in Reading, Berkshire with my wife Sonali.
